The information contained on this page was accumulated over the 5 years that Greybrook Academy has been in operation. Curriculum, special features, and activities are bound to change on a year to year basis. Greybrook Academy is currently accessing the future needs for a 2010-2011 school year and will continually update this site to reflect these changes.

Visual Arts

Art takes shape in several whole-school, permanent Community Art projects on display on Greybrook's campus. Art is also an integral part of the regular curriculum, and the Art teacher works closely with the classroom teachers to develop projects that are integrated with the topics being studied in the classrooms; this inter-disciplinary approach to art - along with plenty of field trips to galleries, museums, and design studios - allow students to see the myriad forms and applications art can have in our everyday lives.

In Art classes, students learn about color theory, line theory, and the elements and principles of art by working with a variety of materials and genres. Students are exposed to various media, including: clay, oil and chalk pastels,  painting, print-making, charcoal,  pencil sketching, collage, plaster of Paris,  batik, paper mache, and mask-making. Additional opportunities to create art are available in the after school activities programme , including Puppetry, Beading, Arts and Crafts, Card Making, Paper Engineering, and so on.

Music

Music is woven through the fabric of every day at Greybrook, from Morning Song and regularly scheduled Music classes, to Band and Choir practices in our after school activities. The primary aim of Greybrook's Music programme is to give students a chance to explore and create music, as individuals and as a group, with performance as the end product of study and play.

Movement and singing play a big part in the younger primary classes, along with having a chance to play and learn the 'voices' of all instruments in our Orff orchestra. The students are encouraged to develop both their listening and leading skills by being part of ensemble practice and performance.

Dance and Drama

Frequent Dance and Drama opportunities are offered to our students through Physical Education classes, classroom projects, public speaking events, language classes, and after school activities. All Greybrook students are encouraged to share their artistic skills and achievements in regular Performance Assemblies and evening concerts.
