Our Physical Education programme encourages students to develop strength, flexibility, and endurance, and offers plenty of opportunities to excel. Classes are taught by a specialist PE teacher, who ensures that each lesson includes exercises balanced with skills development in routines, stations, or games within a safe, fun, cooperative environment. Spatial and body awareness and control are also re-enforced.
The curriculum is well-balanced, and includes fully-developed units in a broad spectrum of areas. We frequently take students to swimming pools, ski hills, curling rinks, and so forth in order to give them first-hand experience in a variety of different sports and activities, and our curriculum includes instruction in team sports (baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball. badminton, etc.), dance, gymnastics, track, swimming, and rock climbing, as well as a variety of multicultural activities, games, and movement skills.
Our PE programme aims to improve self-esteem and self-discipline, and lends opportunities for cooperative behavior, teamwork, fair play, and leadership. It encourages students to use creative, innovative thinking, and to problem solve. Wherever possible, PE also reflects the International Baccalaureate Units of Inquiry and Student Profile across all grade levels.
